Car Detailing Questions, Answered
Everything you want to know about mobile car detailing in Plano, Richardson, Allen, and the DFW area.
What is car detailing?
Car detailing is a thorough, multi-step cleaning and reconditioning process for a vehicle's interior and exterior that goes far beyond a standard car wash. Professional detailing uses specialized tools, steam cleaners, extraction equipment, and professional-grade products to restore a vehicle to near-showroom condition. The process typically includes deep vacuuming, steam cleaning or shampoo extraction of interior surfaces, paint decontamination, hand washing, and protection treatments such as wax or ceramic sealant. A full detail takes 1.5–4 hours depending on the package and vehicle size.
Pricing
How much does car detailing cost in Plano, TX?
Car detailing in Plano, TX costs between $165 and $365 at Zak's Car Detailing, depending on the package. The Base package starts at $165 for a thorough interior clean and exterior hand wash. The Standard — our most popular package — is $265 and includes steam cleaning and spray wax. The Works, which adds shampoo extraction and a ceramic sealant, is $365. All packages are $30 more for XL vehicles (SUVs, trucks, minivans).
What's included in a basic car detail?
A basic car detail at Zak's Car Detailing (The Base, $165) includes a professional vacuum, high-pressure air blowout of all crevices and vents, wipe-down of all interior surfaces, floor mat and carpet cleaning, seat cleaning, window and mirror cleaning, trunk detail, professional exterior hand wash, wheel well cleaning, rim and tire detail, tire dressing, door jamb cleaning, and exterior window cleaning.
Is mobile car detailing more expensive than going to a shop?
Mobile car detailing is typically priced comparably to shop detailing — and often provides better value because the service comes to you. Zak's Car Detailing offers mobile service free within 15 miles of Plano, TX. You save time by not driving to a shop and waiting, while getting the same professional-grade service at your home, office, or anywhere convenient.
Do you charge extra for large vehicles?
Yes — full-size SUVs, trucks, minivans, and large vans incur a $30 XL vehicle surcharge on any package. This covers the additional time and product required to fully detail larger vehicles. Sedans, coupes, hatchbacks, and small crossovers are priced at the standard package rate.
What's Included
What is the difference between a car wash and car detailing?
A car wash typically takes 5–15 minutes and cleans the exterior surface with automated equipment or a quick hand wash. Car detailing is a comprehensive multi-hour service that deep-cleans both the interior and exterior using professional-grade tools and products. Detailing includes steam cleaning, extraction, clay bar treatment, paint decontamination, wax or sealant application, and attention to every crevice, vent, and surface — results that a car wash cannot achieve.
What does interior car detailing include?
Interior car detailing at Zak's includes a 2-step professional vacuum, high-pressure air blowout of vents, cupholders, and crevices, full steam cleaning of seats, carpets, floor mats, door panels, console, and plastics, light or heavy stain treatment, leather deep clean and conditioning, plastic dressing, window cleaning, and trunk detail. The Shampoo & Deep Clean package adds shampoo extraction for embedded dirt and stains in carpets and cloth seats.
Does car detailing remove scratches?
Light surface scratches and swirl marks in the clear coat can be improved or eliminated with paint correction, which is available as an add-on service. However, deep scratches that penetrate through the clear coat to the primer or base coat cannot be fixed by detailing — those require body shop paint repair. Our standard detail packages clean and protect your existing paint rather than correcting paint defects.
Does car detailing remove odors?
Yes — our steam cleaning and shampoo extraction services effectively neutralize most common odors from food, pets, and general use by removing the organic matter that causes them. For severe odors — including smoke, mildew, or biological contamination — we offer an Ozone Odor Treatment add-on (+$50) that penetrates all surfaces and eliminates odor-causing bacteria at a molecular level.
Can you remove pet hair from my car?
Yes. Pet hair removal is one of our most popular add-on services. Light pet hair removal costs $29 and covers manageable amounts of pet hair. Heavy pet hair removal — for vehicles with significant pet hair embedded in carpet fibers and seat upholstery — costs $69. We use specialized tools combined with multi-pass vacuuming to extract embedded hair that standard vacuums cannot reach.
What is steam cleaning for cars?
Automotive steam cleaning uses pressurized steam (up to 300°F) to sanitize and deep-clean interior surfaces without harsh chemicals. The steam penetrates fabric fibers, leather pores, and plastic crevices to break down embedded dirt, bacteria, allergens, and odor-causing organic matter. It's more effective than wiping surfaces with chemicals alone and leaves surfaces sanitized rather than just clean-looking. Steam cleaning is included in our Standard, Works, Steam & Clean, and Shampoo & Deep Clean packages.
Mobile Service
Can you detail my car at my house?
Yes — Zak's Car Detailing is a fully mobile service. We come to your home, office parking lot, apartment complex, or any location in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Our mobile setup is completely self-contained: we bring our own water, equipment, and supplies. You don't need a water hookup or power outlet. Mobile service is free within 15 miles of Plano, TX.
How far do you travel for mobile car detailing in DFW?
We serve the entire Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, with free mobile service within 15 miles of Plano, TX — covering Plano, Richardson, Allen, Frisco, McKinney, Garland, Irving, Carrollton, The Colony, and Lewisville. For locations farther out, a travel fee may apply. Call us at (214) 899-6635 to confirm service availability at your address.
Do you need access to water or electricity at my location?

Scheduling & Process
How long does car detailing take?
Car detailing at Zak's takes 1.5 to 4 hours depending on the package. The Base package takes approximately 1.5 hours. The Standard package takes about 3 hours. The Works package takes around 4 hours. Interior-only packages take 1.5 hours (Steam & Clean) to 2.5 hours (Shampoo & Deep Clean). XL vehicles may add 30–60 minutes to any estimate.
How often should I get my car detailed?
For most drivers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, we recommend a full interior and exterior detail every 2–4 months, with a maintenance wash in between. Vehicles parked under trees (pollen, sap), near construction zones (dust), or frequently driven on highways (road film, tar) benefit from more frequent detailing. A ceramic sealant applied once or twice a year significantly extends protection between details.
How do I prepare my car for detailing?
To prepare for a mobile detail, remove personal belongings, loose change, car seats (or leave them for us to work around — car seat cleaning is a $35 add-on), and any valuables from the vehicle. Clear the parking space so we have room to work around the car. That's it — we handle everything else. You don't need to pre-wash the car or move it to a special location.
What areas in DFW do you serve?
Zak's Car Detailing serves Plano, Richardson, Allen, Frisco, McKinney, Garland, Irving, Carrollton, The Colony, Lewisville, Dallas, and Fort Worth. We are based in the North Dallas / Collin County area, with free mobile service within 15 miles of Plano. Book online or call (214) 899-6635 to schedule.
Paint Protection
What is ceramic coating and is it worth it?
Ceramic coating is a liquid polymer — typically silicon dioxide (SiO2) — applied to your car's paint that bonds chemically to the clear coat and creates a durable, hydrophobic protective layer. Once cured, it repels water, resists UV damage, protects against bird droppings and tree sap, and makes the car easier to clean. A professional hybrid ceramic sealant adds 6–12 months of protection and costs $75 as a standalone add-on at Zak's, or is included in The Works package. It is especially worth it in North Texas, where intense UV and summer heat degrade unprotected paint rapidly.
What is the difference between car wax and ceramic sealant?
Traditional carnauba wax is a natural product that provides a warm, deep shine for 4–8 weeks before it wears off and requires reapplication. A ceramic sealant (SiO2-based) is a synthetic polymer that bonds to the paint surface and lasts 6–18 months. Sealants are also harder, more hydrophobic, and more resistant to heat, UV, and chemicals than wax. Zak's uses a hybrid ceramic sealant in The Works package and as a standalone add-on.
